shehecheyanu

Welcome to my first ever blog!

I always have a ton to say. My head is spinning trying to decide what (or who) to talk about first. Do I mention real names? Will this be something for my close friends or for my 1800+ facebook friends (aka "6 degrees of Alicia Post" haha - yes it is really a group on facebook - www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9278270658)?

I guess first I should tell you about myself. Born and raised on Long Island I grew up in a 'conservative' Jewish family of 5, two loving parents, an incredible sister and all-star brother. I went to sleep away camp that was full of 'Jews' but did not know of 'Jewish camping'. I attended public school and got very involved with USY (United Synagogue Youth - the first of many acronyms I am sure to use). In 1994 I went with USY to Poland and Israel for the summer. Landing in Israel changed my life.

I went on to attend Ithaca College and eventually started working for Birthright Israel. After 7 years I left to work for JNF (Jewish National Fund) and am currently looking for a paid position in the non-profit Jewish communal sector.

While at Birthright Israel I first joined the board of ISCD (the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled - www.iscd.com). I was hooked!

Next I got involved with FFT (Fuel For Truth - www.FuelForTruth.org).

Hadassah was my next organization. There is a 20's and 30's group called Meira that I cherish! I realized my great-grandmother was a life member and I am currently part of a 5 generation family tree!

What else....

MJE (Manhattan Jewish Experience - www.jewishexperience.org) downtown,
Beit Issie Shapiro's Generation Next (www.afobis.oeg) and most recently
Artists 4 Israel (www.Artists4Israel.org - coming soon).

There is more I am involved with and you can check out my yahoo group home page (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/postalicia - keeping you POSTed on mostly Jewish or Israel related events and charities that my friends and I are involved with; some job/networking opportunities and apartments/roommates).

I am a self-proclaimed Jewish socialite (friends often refer to me as Paris Chilton), a proud Jew and Zionist.

Now that I have given you a little about myself I will tell you why I am starting this:
PEER PRESSURE!

My Jew Crew (PLP '04 - Professional Leaders Project, www.Jewishleaders.net) has an intervention with me at least once a year inspiring me to live to my fullest Jewish self.
Last one was about getting a new job. This one was about utilizing my network and resources and getting rid of my yahoo group (so 1999 they say).

What do you think???
