Last month my friend Lauren sent me an email informing me that she was participating in the NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) walk on Long Island.
“I would love for you to join me or to make a donation if possible!”
I was immediately interested in learning more and visited http://nami.org/ where I discovered impressive information (see top 5 below)!
I
mentioned it to my brother and we agreed to sign-up to walk together.
We created a team, ‘Walking for Wellness’ and on on May 12th we walked...
A beautiful day at South Street Seaport and a nice and meaningful walk over the Brooklyn Bridge
To date we have raised $1,314!
I want to invite YOU to walk with me next year; challenge you to help think of a creative team name and join in meeting our exciting goals! If there is anyone else you think may be interested in joining the team and/or donating please be sure to share!

Please contact me with any questions.

1.
NAMIWalks happen all over... In 2012, tens of thousands of concerned
citizens in more than 83 communities across the nation will join NAMI
and walk together to raise money and awareness about our country's need
for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental
illness.
2. We all know someone who has or is affected by at least one of the following:
•Autism Spectrum Disorders •Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder •Bipolar Disorder •Borderline Personality Disorder •Dissociative Disorders •Dual Diagnosis & Integrated Treatment of Mental Illness & Substance Abuse Disorder •Eating Disorders •Major Depression •Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) •Panic Disorder •Posttraumatic Stress Disorder •Schizoaffective Disorder •Schizophrenia •Seasonal Affective Disorder •Suicide •Tourette's Syndrome •First Episodes of Psychosis
3. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest education, support and advocacy organization that serves the needs of all whose lives are touched by these illnesses. This includes persons with mental illness, their families, friends, employers, the law enforcement community and policy makers. The NAMI organization is composed of approximately 1100 local affiliates, 50 state offices and a national office.
4. The goals of the NAMIWalks program are: to fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness, to build awareness of the fact that the mental health system in this country needs to be improved and to raise funds for NAMI so that they can continue their mission.
5. NAMI is a 501(c)3 charity and any donation you make to support my participation in this event is tax deductible. NAMI has been rated by Worth magazine as among the top 100 charities "most likely to save the world" and has been given an "A+" rating by The American Institute of Philanthropy for efficient and effective use of charitable dollars. NAMI has also been given 4 out of 4 stars by The Charity Navigator for short-term spending practices and long-term sustainability.
